For 150 years, the lobster fishers of Prince Edward Island have dedicated themselves to this profession. From rising early at daybreak to embarking on their boats, they diligently set traps and eagerly bring in the delectable lobster that delights customers across the globe. Spanning across 45 ports in Prince Edward Island, this occupation has become a cherished tradition passed down through generations for many.



Prince Edward Island's lobster industry is renowned for its high-quality lobster. The pristine waters of the North Atlantic Ocean provide an ideal environment for the lobsters to thrive, resulting in tender and juicy meat. The hard and strong shell of the lobster not only protects the delicate meat but also adds to the unique dining experience.


The two lobster seasons in Prince Edward Island, the Spring season from May to June and the Fall season from mid-August to mid-October, offer different opportunities for lobster fishing. The first day of each season, known as Setting Day, holds special significance. It marks the beginning of the fishing season, and it's a celebratory occasion for the community.


On Setting Day, people gather to witness the spectacle of hundreds of boats setting sail from the ports and venturing into the open water. It's a vibrant event that brings together locals and visitors alike, creating a sense of unity and excitement. The sight of the boats heading out to sea symbolizes the start of the lobster season and is an integral part of the island's cultural heritage.


Prince Edward Island's lobster industry not only contributes to the local economy but also attracts seafood enthusiasts from around the world. Lucie Bernadette Bellemare is a passionate artist originally from Alma, Quebec, but has been based in Prince Edward Island for about thirty years now. She has an exceptional artistic educational background, as she has successfully completed studies in visual arts, art education, and sculptural art at UQTR (Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières), UQAC (Université du Québec à Chicoutimi), and the Université de Moncton. Lucie uses various mediums including, acrylic, oil, resins, watercolours and metals to create inspiring semi-abstract contemporary works, and often describes her work as energy that was captured and translated into movement on the canvas. She feels strongly that the universe is always moving and always providing positive energy, and through this, when she starts a painting, she allows the universe to guide her and help her to translate what she is visually seeing into a abstract art piece of on the canvas. Her artist way, "The universe is always moving, I let myself move with the universe and dance on the cavas, and what comes of that is what was meant to be." When asked about being an artist in Prince Edward Island, Lucie explained that Price Edward Island is a simple landscape place with many picturesque views that often inspire her artwork. She says, "Prince Edward Island for me is the place you can find a way to be an artist. The artist realm is very good. You can be creative and people will support you." She goes on the explain that the vast and endless inspirations of nature, wind, light, and ocean nourish and tease her imagination. When asked about her artistic process and creative method, she explained that she engages in multiple series of artwork, by occasional surges of artistic vigor that allow her to perceive the world through a unique lens and translate those ideas into tangible form. One notable series she produced called 'Full Moon' series, is comprised of numerous artworks that depict scenic landscapes illuminated by a bright abstract moon. During this series she was inspired my the moon and tis bright light and how it shines down on all the beauty below.
