About Lucie...

Lucie Bernadette Bellemare is a passionate artist originally from Alma, Quebec, but has been based in Prince Edward Island for about thirty years now. She has an exceptional artistic educational background, as she has successfully completed studies in visual arts, art education, and sculptural art at UQTR (Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières), UQAC (Université du Québec à Chicoutimi), and the Université de Moncton. Lucie uses various mediums including, acrylic, oil, resins, watercolours and metals to create inspiring semi-abstract contemporary works, and often describes her work as energy that was captured and translated into movement on the canvas. She feels strongly that the universe is always moving and always providing positive energy, and through this, when she starts a painting, she allows the universe to guide her and help her to translate what she is visually seeing into a abstract art piece of on the canvas. Her artist way, "The universe is always moving, I let myself move with the universe and dance on the cavas, and what comes of that is what was meant to be."

When asked about being an artist in Prince Edward Island, Lucie explained that Price Edward Island is a simple landscape place with many picturesque views that often inspire her artwork. She says, "Prince Edward Island for me is the place you can find a way to be an artist. The artist realm is very good. You can be creative and people will support you." She goes on the explain that the vast and endless inspirations of nature, wind, light, and ocean nourish and tease her imagination. When asked about her artistic process and creative method, she explained that she engages in multiple series of artwork, by occasional surges of artistic vigor that allow her to perceive the world through a unique lens and translate those ideas into tangible form. One notable series she produced called 'Full Moon' series, is comprised of numerous artworks that depict scenic landscapes illuminated by a bright abstract moon. During this series she was inspired my the moon and tis bright light and how it shines down on all the beauty below.

In a recent interview, Lucie was asked about how she defines success as an artist. She responded, "Success as an artist is about how people view your work. It is about making a strong positive impact on people." She continues, "My art is poetry, it speaks to you if you listen. I want my art to bring joy to people and show them how to look at the world in a special way. I want people to see the colours and the earth and the ocean and feel as if you are part of it."

Lucie's artistic talents extend far beyond visual art. In addition to her impressive repertoire of artwork, she also enjoys being involved in the realms of prose and poetry, composes musical pieces, skillfully captures portraits and illustrations, and even crafts monumental sculptures using recycled metal. Her creative pursuits are not limited to the arts alone, as she finds joy in practicing yoga, singing opera, and embarking on long-distance hikes.

During her creative endeavors, Lucie can be found working in her studio located in Summerside. She also invites visitors to explore the enchanting Belle Mare Art Gallery, situated in the picturesque Gateway Village site in Borden.

With a smile, Lucie says. "Art comes when words are not enough."
